Santanyí magazine ···14 I would like to highlight, that two of our gymnasts, Ruth Sans and Maria Motta, the number one and two of Mallorca, competed in the Balearic Championship that took place last June in Menorca. They achieved the second and third place. And our Silvia had been selected for the Championship of Spain but just when it was going to be hold, she had to have surgery. You can imagine how much she cried. - How did this sport develop since its beginnings ? -The rhythmic gymnastic is a discipline whose rules are changing with every Olympic cycle. Both, the referees and the coaches have to upgrade continuously and acquaint themselves with the newest changes. Currently, they have turned to put more emphasis on the aesthetic and beauty rather than on the acrobatic causing a range of injuries. Nevertheless, very modern techniques have been developed over the years of its history in order to prevent such injuries and other conditions affecting the health. There is always one side of the body that works better than the other one, but we attempt to stress both sides equally and to compensate the exercises that strain the back with specific exercises that strengthen the abdominals.- In which competitions do you participate ? -We compete in the Championships of Mallorca and the Balearic Islands. In the last ones we have had a very good year so far. At the beginning of the season many of our gymnasts have been promoted to the next higher level thanks to the referees evaluation. In the different controls and competition we have participated, the gymnasts of our Club have got on the podium time and again, demonstrating the high quality of our work.
