Santanyí magazine 125 ··· Renato del Solar Since more than two years now the artist and graphic designer Renato del Solar has been living in Es Llombards, Santanyí. In the first place most of the village people have known him through his Chalk Angels with which he graces every year for Easter the streets of Santanyí. The reaction of the townsfolk is somewhat restrained but doubtlessly positive. So, for example, the Angel the artist had painted on the church door remained there for 10 months. In reply to the question what has prompted himtoperformthis actioneveryGoodFriday, the artist responded, that for him the Angels represented a kind of symbol to say thanks to Santanyí. At the same time they gave the town wings and there might also have been a certain spiritual motivation. Renato del Solar is a versatile artist who expresses his art in different areas. Born in Chile, he came to Germany at the age of 5, where he lived with his parents in Göttingen and Mannheim. After graduating from High School he wanted to study Art at the Academy in Karlsruhe, but as he should have waited a year for a university place he decided to study magisteruim in Palma.
