SANTANYI MAGAZINE 06

Santanyí magazine ···126 At that time, the dean of the faculty was Miquel Massip who instructed him in art studies. After university he went back to Germany with the firm intention to return to Mallorca in the near future, since the Island lived its boom in the 1980s after the dead of Franco and the obtainment of autonomy. But then he knew his wife and stayed for the next 20 years in Germany because of love. He worked for several publicity agencies as well as independent artist. It needed that long time until he bethought of himself and remembered his dreams. For professional reasons he first moved to Roses (Catalonia), until he finally returned to Mallorca in 2008. Fulfilled with the feeling to have arrived home he was overwhelmed by the urge to give thanks to Santanyí. Mallorca and Santanyí – sites where you can find yourself and which offer an endless source of inspiration for self-development. “Mallorca draw out the best or the worst of the people. “ The idea with the Chalk Angels arose from that emotion”. With help of new friends and inspired from a new stimulating and unexpected love he consecrated himself ones again to his many-faceted artistic talents. His artistic craftwork includes the little winged sheep made of china and his modern paintings on brick but also the Trompe L’Oeil as the murals and ceiling paintings in the popular bar Sa Cova, definitely being worth a visit. His pictures have been exhibited in Germany as well as in Spain. In Santanyí there will be a exhibition of his paintings next year in the Casa de Cultura and they can be admired at the Art Market that takes place every year. If you are interested it is also possible to arrange an appointment for a private visit. Furthermore Renato teaches painting and design. „There’s no point that the student knows how to draw a perfect orange, but that he learns to understand his own sense of the orange, that he becomes aware, what this orange means to him,” explains the artist. “So it’s perfectly possible that someone paints a blue orange, because this color expresses the sensation the orange inspires in him”. This kind of teaching, where the pleasure to paint and the self-awareness have priority, the artistic pedagogue perceives as enriching for him, too. Besides the painting lessons, in November he is going to bring into being a theatre group for adults. They still don’t know which play they are going to rehearse, but in any case they will perform it in German and in Spanish in the Theatre Principal. He would love to organize a children’s theatre too, as he did inGermany. He hopes to attract the interest and support of the Council and the Schools for this project. The artist’s VISION is the creation of a „Temple of Dolphins“. This “Temple of Dolphins” strives to be a site of artistry, a site where the artists can exhibit their work or perform their art on the building itself in the form of stuccowork or another kind of building design. In doing so, the building itself will be an artwork. It is just a vision so far and it hasn`t yet entered in the project-phase but the artist is expecting its realization with curiosity and excitement. We must not forget the publicity area which has assured the designer’s livelihood most of the time and given him stability and down-to-earthness. At the same time, this area often provokes a certain inner conflict.
